On the 14th, the day before the opening match, Coach Matsuhashi expressed a sense of fulfillment regarding the trials so far while maintaining a calm and composed demeanor.
"Nothing has particularly changed. Of course, I want to have a good opening, and I have been able to spend fulfilling days in preparation so far. The only thing left is what kind of match tomorrow will be. The players will likely feel some tension, and I want to remove any unnecessary weights and send them out onto the pitch. For that, I think it's important for me to be myself first. If the coach appears flustered, it will be conveyed to the players. There are many players here who have accumulated enough experience, so I really want to fight confidently tomorrow."
Yokohama FC finished second in the Meiji Yasuda J2 League last season and was promoted to the J1 League. They had the league's fewest goals conceded with 27 in 38 matches, and demonstrated their strength in crucial moments by scoring 30 percent of their total 60 goals from set pieces, successfully navigating the competitive J2. This season, it is expected that their basic style of play will remain unchanged, utilizing a 3-4-3 system that leans towards a five-back formation, focusing on solid defense, quick counterattacks, and set pieces as their weapons.
Particularly to be wary of is Fukumori's left foot, who is expected to play as one of the three defenders. Not only does he supply high-precision balls from corner kicks and free kicks, but he also plays a role in delivering sharp long feeds from the back line to the front line, making him a presence that cannot be taken lightly even when he has the ball in a deep position.
In the J-League, the number of bench members will increase to 20 starting this season. This will broaden the tactical options for player substitutions, which will be a positive aspect for Tokyo, as they have players with various characteristics. A, I want to have a good opening, and I have been able to spend fulfilling days during the preparation period so far. It's about how the match against Yokohama FC will turn out.
Q: Is there anything you focused on and communicated to the players?
A, there is nothing particularly special. First of all, I think it is important for me to be myself, and for example, if I become flustered or panicked, that will be conveyed to the players. I want to keep my feet on the ground and fight proudly as a team.
Q: Please tell us your impression of the opponent.
A, the strengths of Yokohama FC, such as high-intensity defense, attacks utilizing physical abilities, and set plays, seem to have not changed significantly. Regarding set plays, I believe they will be a key point in both offense and defense. They can also break through a stalemate, and I think the height of both teams will come into play.

Q: As the start of the 2025 season approaches, how is your current condition and motivation?
A, the condition has been good since the Okinawa camp. I believe that with the league starting, motivation will naturally increase, and I want to move both in a good direction.
Q: How do you feel about the team's level of completion and overall performance?
I believe that as a team, we are at the entry level of our completeness. There is still much to be done as a team, and I think there is potential for growth and improvement. By playing more matches and continuously improving and growing, I believe we will mature as a team. While there is certainly a sense of urgency that we are still at the entry level, I also feel that we are able to transform that into a positive tension.
Q: What is that sense of tension specifically like?
I believe that expressing my own strengths on the pitch is a point where I can contribute to the team, and there is nothing specific like "this is how it must be done." I think there is freedom within the things we should do as a team and the rules, and I am really looking forward to being able to demonstrate my abilities within that framework.
Q, please share your enthusiasm for the upcoming new season.
I believe there are various situations, whether things are going smoothly or not, but it is important for everyone to fight with the same vector at all times. Q: In your third year as a professional, is there anything in particular you are focusing on this season?
A, I don't have anything particularly in mind, and I believe that I just need to continue doing what I've been doing and express what I need to do on the pitch. Specifically, I want to increase plays that contribute to creating chances and scoring, and focus on numbers like goals and assists.
Q: After the Okinawa camp and practice matches, please tell us about your current feelings.
Although there were camps and practice matches, I believe there are many things that cannot be understood without actually competing in official matches. The atmosphere as a team is good, and I want to fight for the league championship, which everyone has set as a goal, this season as well.
Q: How do you want to express the football that the team aims for?
First of all, I want to show our commitment to victory through our play. Coach Rikizo MATSUHASHI often emphasizes the importance of focusing on results in training, and I want to keep that in mind.
