リーグ戦再開、これからの浮上を賭けて

　約1か月ぶりにリーグ戦が再開、第19節はアウェーで浦和レッズと対戦する。来週水曜日に名古屋、土曜日に磐田と続く連戦だが、現在勝点21で順位は13位。ここから上昇するため、この緒戦は大事なゲームとなる。中断期間の成長ぶりも試される試合だ。その中で、注目はなんといっても、Jリーグ初出場のFWササ。来日以降、日本の暑さに苦しんでいた時期もあったようだが、今月13日に行われた川崎フロンターレとの練習試合では2ゴールをマークし、高い能力の片鱗を見せ始めている。原監督も「ササを入れた新しいやり方で、新しい東京のスタイルで点を取ることを目指す」と期待している。

　懸念材料といえば、土肥、茂庭、今野、加地が日本代表の活動のため、合流して練習する時間が短かったこと、また彼らの疲労が挙げられる。だが、その点は「クラブの宿命」と原監督は受け止めている。言葉どおり、この厳しさをしっかり乗り越えて、ひと回り強いチームへと成長していきたい。先発はルーカスとササの2トップ、左MFに馬場、右MFには好調の鈴木規。今野と梶山がダブルボランチを組む布陣。

　対する浦和は、現在勝点29で3位につける。FWエメルソンがチームを離れたが、後半戦を迎え、MFポンテとFWマリッチが新加入。「ポンテはパッサーでタメがつくれる選手。マリッチはエメルソンほどのスピードはないが、ポンテとマリッチのワンツーに長谷部がアクセントをつけるというような戦いでナビスコカップを勝ち抜いてきた。エメルソンが抜けた分、前線からボールも追うし、守備が固い。簡単な戦いではない」と原監督が分析するように、互いに新加入選手のフィットがカギを握ることとなる。

　浦和は前試合のナビスコカップとは多少前線のメンバーを代えてきた。日本代表のMF三都主はベンチスタート。ケガの明けた永井とマリッチが2トップを組み、トップ下にポンテを置く3-5-2の布陣。ともに落とせない一戦は、昼間の猛暑もようやく和らいだ埼玉スタジアム、18時4分、東京のキックオフでスタートした。

TOKYO Aim High In League Restart 

After a month-long break the J.League restarted with F.C.TOKYO making the short trip north to Saitama to take on Urawa Reds in the 19th. game of the season. Currently lying in 13th. place with 21 points, TOKYO faced three difficult games in a week: home to Grampus on Wednesday and away to Jubilo the following Saturday. All eyes were on new signing Sasa Salcedo, making his first league appearance. The blistering Tokyo midsummer heat had bothered the young Paraguayan but he managed to score twice and impress in a friendly against Kawasaki Frontale the previous week. Manager Hara commented, "We're playing in a new style with Sasa in the team and hoping to score a lot more goals". 
On the other hand TOKYO had cause for concern regarding the returning National Team members Kaji, Doi, Moniwa and Konno; how would their exertions and lack of training time with the squad affect their performances? Manager Hara was sanguine, "That's our fate", he commented. TOKYO lined up with Sasa and Lucas up front, Baba on the right, the in-form Suzuki on the left and Kajiyama and Konno as defensive midfielders. 
The Reds began the game in 3rd. place with 29 points. Ace striker Emerson had departed and newcomers Ponte and Marich had arrived. "Ponte is a passer, a playmaker," said Hara," and Marich isn't as fast as Emerson but they combined well with Hasebe and won a recent Nabisco Cup game. They chase hard from the front and have a solid defence. It won't be an easy game". How well the new signings would fit into their teams seemed the key to the game. 
The Reds had made a few changes from their last outing: Nagai and Marich started in attack with Ponte "in the hole" in a 3-5-2 formation. Japan National Team regular Santos began on the bench. The intense heat of the day had faded slightly as the home team kicked off shortly after 6pm.

ササ、初ゴール！　早い時間に先制するが…

　開始直後は一進一退の奪い合いが続いたが、最初にチャンスを活かしたのは東京だった。4分には加地のアーリークロスにササが飛び込み、攻撃の形をみせる。そして5分、ルーカスが左前線で粘り強くキープ。フォローに上がった金沢は中にドリブルで仕掛け、エリア左手前から右足でクロス。これにファーサイドで待ち構えたササがダイビングヘッド！　ボールの落ち際に飛び込んだ巧みなシュートを決め、ササのうれしい初ゴールで早くも先制した！

　浦和も9分には左サイドで粘り、エリア左に戻したところに走りこんだ永井がシュート。強烈なボールは土肥のナイスセーブでCKに逃れる。11分には左サイドに流れた鈴木規が浦和MF山田と1対1に。勝負を仕掛け、タテに抜けてクロスを上げる。これにササが走りこみ、ヘッドを後ろに振りぬくがゴール右に。15分には細かいパスをつなぐ浦和にゴール前への攻め込みを許すが、今野、ジャーンらがうまくカバーしてシュートは打たせず。

　だが、徐々に浦和が速い動き出しと、ポンテを起点にしたパスワークからリズムをつかみ始める。22分にはポンテ→右エリアに抜け出した浦和FW永井にシュートを打たれるも、茂庭がきっちり身体を寄せてコースを切り、ボールは土肥の正面に。26分にはポンテに右サイド深い位置に走り込まれ、マイナスのクロスに合わせたFW永井がエリア内からシュート。決定的なシーンだったが、土肥がナイスセーブ！東京は、浦和の厳しいマークの前に押され気味に。前線や中盤でボールを保持することができず、攻めに出ることができなくなっていた。

　迎えた39分、左サイドからのパスを受けた浦和ポンテが、中へ回りこむと見せながらゴール前へスルーパス。これに反応した永井がエリア内に回りこむように抜け出し、ゴールエリア右手前からシュート。これが左下隅に決まり、同点に追いつかれてしまった。42分には浦和MF鈴木が右エリアに切り込み、マイナスのクロス。ポンテが走りこんだがジャストミートせず、土肥がキャッチ。追加点こそ許さなかったものの、東京は先制のアドバンテージを活かせず、守勢に立たされ、前半を終了した。

Sasa Gives TOKYO An Early Lead 

The match began as a frenzied scramble but it was TOKYO who carved out the first opening, Kaji curling an early cross in towards the diving Sasa. A minute later Lucas battled tenaciously on the left to retain the ball before slipping it to the overlapping Kanazawa. Kanazawa crossed to the far post where Sasa burst behind two defenders to bury a powerful diving header past Tsuzuki for his first league goal. 
The Reds fought back. In the 9th. minute Nagai cracked a drive from the left side of the area that Doi turned around the post at full stretch. In the 11th. minute Suzuki took on and beat Yamada down the left then crossed to Sasa who backheaded the ball wide of the right post. The Reds threatened the TOKYO goal with some neat short passing in the 15th. minute but Jean and Konno blocked the danger. 
However, the Reds slowly began to find their rhythm through pace and movement with Ponte's passwork providing the basis. In the 22nd. minute Ponte played in Nagai on the right of the area but Moniwa's block took the power off the shot and Doi collected comfortably. In the 26th. minute Ponte took the ball to the byline and pulled it back for Nagai to shoot from inside the area. Doi pulled off another superb save to deny Reds the equaliser but TOKYO were being forced back by some fierce pressure. The midfield and forward line were unable to retain possession and the attack dwindled to nothing. 
In the 39th. minute Ponte received the ball from the right and turned infield before releasing a disguised pass towards the TOKYO goal. Nagai raced onto the ball and clipped a low shot past the advancing Doi that nestled inside the far post. Ponte came within a whisker of giving his team the lead in the 42nd. minute but failed to make full contact with Suzuki's cross and Doi caught the ball cleanly. The visitors had failed to take their lead into the break and were firmly on the defensive as the half time whistle blew. 

浦和に主導権を握られ、終盤の反撃も実らず

　後半開始40秒、ササのドリブルから今野が前線に浮き球のパス。これに鈴木規が飛び出すが、相手GKがキャッチ。立ち上がりこそ攻めの形をみせた東京だったが、その後、立て続けにピンチが訪れる。46分、左MF平川のパスをエリア手前で受けたポンテがワンタッチでコントロールしてシュート。ボールはDFの間をぬってゴールに向かったが、右ポストに当たり、ゴールイン寸前で跳ね返る。47分には東京DFの裏に抜け出したMF山田がフリーでシュートを放つが土肥がスーパーセーブ。50分には浦和の速攻から。ポンテにエリア右からシュートを打たれるが、またもや土肥がセーブ！ なんとかピンチを切り抜けた。

　しかし、54分。ついにゴールを割られることに。自陣でルーズボールを拾った梶山が攻めに出ようとしたところを、浦和ポンテに奪い返される。ポンテはゴール前にドリブルで上がり、エリア手前から放ったシュートはきれいな弧を描いてゴールイン。技ありのシュートで、リードを許すことになった。東京は55分には梶山に代えて三浦を投入。だが、浦和の勢いを止めるのは難しく、プレスがかからず、ロングボールを前に蹴るだけの展開になってしまった。

　62分には疲れのみえるササに代えて石川を投入。石川を右に、左に鈴木規、中央に馬場の布陣で反撃にでる。70分には三浦→石川のクロスから右CKを奪う。石川のキックに今野が飛び込む。ミートはしなかったが、徐々に東京らしい攻撃を見せ始めた。72分には鈴木規が左サイド深くからファーにクロス。追いついた馬場がゴールを狙うが、ボールは大きくバーを越えた。78分には今野が左サイドに鈴木規を走らせ、クロスからCKを奪う。この直後に金沢に代えて栗澤を投入。馬場を前に上げ、栗澤が中央に、鈴木規が左サイドバックをカバーする布陣に。

　80分には栗澤が左エリアへ侵入、角度のないところからも果敢にシュートを狙うが、相手GKに阻まれる。浦和も攻撃の手を緩めない。84分にはFKから、山田が落とし、MF鈴木がシュートするが大きくバーを越える。 86分には、速攻からMF鈴木が右に抜け出し、スピードに乗ったミドルを放つが、左に切れる。

　一進一退のチャンスが続く中、それでもあきらめない東京は、87分には中に上がった加地がエリア内にスルーパス。石川が抜け出し、ゴール至近距離から放ったシュートは逆サイドのポストをヒット！……ボールはゴール正面にこぼれ、ルーカスがシュートを放つが浦和DFのブロックに合い、同点のビッグチャンスを逃した。結局、終盤にきてようやく東京らしさを見せはじめたが、浦和の固い守りをこじ開けることができず。ササの得点のみに終わり、1対2で逆転負け。点差以上の力負けを喫したといえるだろう。

　【選手コメント】《ササ》「初出場でゴールを決められたことはうれしいが、勝たなければ意味がない。逆転されたことが残念。ファーストタッチでのゴールだったが、次は必ず勝ちたい。気持ちを切り替えてがんばりたい」《金沢》「早い時間に先制して、そこから引き気味になった。出足も相手より遅れ、浦和に支配されてしまった。人が動くこと、ボールを動かすことが足りなかった。2トップに当てて、1回タメをつくってそこからサイドを使いたかったが。トップが厳しくマークされてこぼれを拾ってつなぐことができず、前に蹴るしかなくなってしまった。試合の中での修正が必要だが、そこがチームの課題。東京の得意の攻撃の形を活かすようにしていきたい」《三浦》「感想は…むずかしい。最低でも引き分けに持ち込まなければいけなかった。2点目を取られる時間が早すぎたと思う。ただ、自分が入ってから『3点目を取られなければ絶対チャンスはあるし、引き分けに持ち込める』と話していたが…。中断明けの最初の試合に負けるのは嫌なこと。ただ引きずっていても仕方がないので、次の名古屋戦、味スタではスパッと気持ちのいい試合をする！」

　【原監督の会見要旨】「中断期間があり、新しく入ったササをなじませるようにトレーニングをしてきた。今日は早い段階で彼が決めて、良さを出してくれた。が、まだチームに馴染んでない部分がある。早い時間帯に１点取ったことにより、ズルズルと後ろに引いてしまい、前から追えなくなっていった。浦和のFW永井やMFポンテをどうしても捕まえきれず、前半何回か危ないシーンがあったので、もっとボールに競りにいくように指示したが、どうしていいかわからない状態になってしまった。そこで浦和MF長谷部や鈴木にボールを拾われ、主導権を握られた。特にMFポンテのつかまえ方が難しく、彼にリズムをつくられた。また梶山がボールをつないでいく仕事ができなかった。本人もどうポジションをとっていいかわからない状態だったので、三浦に代えようと思っていた矢先にポンテにファインゴールを決められてしまった。これからササをうまく取り入れていかなければならないが、まだルーカスとのコンビネーションがうまくいっていない。ササに疲れもあったので、後半は今までやっていた形に戻し、石川を投入してボールを動かそうとした。彼を入れたことで、少しはサイドを使えるようになったが。終盤に決められるチャンスがあり、石川のシュートがポストををたたくシーンもあったが決められなかった。非常に悔しいが、まだ試合も続くので次の試合に向けてササをうまくなじませ、もう少しボールを動かせるように修正して、次節に挑みたい」

　【浦和・ブッフバルト監督の会見要旨】「FC東京は開始からアグレッシブに来ると予想していたので、我々も最初からアグレッシブにいこうと話していた。選手はその通りやってくれたが、残念ながら前半の早い段階でちょっとした不注意により失点して、リードを許した。しかし選手は下を向くことなく、自分たちのサッカーを続けていこうとした。そしてチャンスを作り、FC東京を押し込むことができた。残念ながら前半は1点しか取れなかったが、もっと点を取るチャンスがあった。後半に入ってからも主導権を握り、多くのチャンスをつくったが、追加点はポンテのすばらしい個人技から生まれた。数多くのチャンスを決めきれない中で、最後は相手に押し込まれる場面があったが、運も味方にしたことを含め、全体として良かった。私は自分の選手たちのプレーに興奮してしまった。特にポンテに関してはスルーパスも出せるしシュートも打てるし、期待に応えてくれた。FWマリッチを交代させたのは戦術によるもの。FC東京が石川を投入してきたため。FC東京は加地と石川のコンビで右サイドからチャンスをつくる。そこで、三都主に対応させ、彼らの攻撃を防ぐとともに、裏をとっていこうとしたから。今日の試合はこれから始まる連戦の第1戦目。すぐに次の試合に向けて切り替え、集中していきたい」

Reds Dominate As TOKYO Fail To Mount Fightback 

In the first minute of the second half Sasa surged forward and found Konno whose floated through ball was whipped away from Suzuki by the Reds keeper. TOKYO had begun brightly again but were soon under the cosh. Ponte received the ball on the edge of the area, took one touch and fired a shot between two defenders that beat Doi but struck the inside of the post and rebounded away. In the 47th. minute Yamada raced clear of the TOKYO defence but Doi again produced a stunning save to keep his side in the game. Doi foiled Ponte once more in the 50th. minute but was unable to prevent his team falling behind in the 54th. Kajiyama pounced on a loose ball and moved to attack but Ponte robbed him, dribbled forward and unleashed a sumptuous, curling drive that arced beyond Doi's despairing dive and into the back of the net. Miura replaced Kajiyama but TOKYO failed to find a foothold in the midfield and resorted to hitting long balls to the forward line. 
Sasa began to flag and Ishikawa replaced him in the 62nd. minute. Ishikawa moved to the right, Suzuki remained on the left and Baba moved into a central position. In the 70th. minute Ishikawa's cross earned a corner and while Konno failed to make substantial contact the flurry of attacking activity raised TOKYO's hopes. In the 72nd. minute Suzuki played a deep cross from the left towards Baba who made contact but hoisted the chance over the bar. In the 78th. minute Konno set Suzuki away down the left flank and TOKYO won another corner. Kurisawa then replaced Kanazawa and moved into a central position while Baba moved further forward and Suzuki covered the left side. 
In the 80th. minute Kurisawa raced into the Reds area and shot from a tight angle, drawing a scrambled save from Tsuzuki. The home side had chances to extend their lead, most notably in the 84th. minute when Yamada nodded a freekick down to Suzuki who blazed over the bar. Suzuki shot wide from a good position in the 86th. minute. 
The chances came and went until TOKYO nearly claimed an equaliser at the death. Kaji found himself upfield with the ball and rolled a delicate pass through the Reds defence to Ishikawa. Ishikawa shot first time from point blank range and saw his effort beat Tsuzuki but hit the post and rebound into play. Lucas pounced and shot but a Reds defender blocked his effort on the line and the ball was scrambled away. The resurgence proved too little too late as TOKYO failed to breach the solid home defence and the match finished 2-1 to the Reds. It would be fair to say the difference between the teams was more than a single goal. 


Players' comments 
Sasa: 
"I was very pleased to score my first goal for the club but it has no meaning if we don't win. The way they came from behind was very disappointing. I scored with my first touch; I'm determined to do my best and we'll definitely win the next game". 

Kanazawa 
"We scored first but it was downhill from there. They were faster to the ball than us and we allowed them to control possession. We didn't have enough movement and didn't move the ball around enough. We aimed to get the ball up to the front men and then move it out to the flanks; the marking was very tight though, and we weren't winning the loose balls. That left us with no options other than playing the long ball. We have to be able to adapt our tactics to the situation we face during the game; that's been a recurring theme for us. We have to find a way to play our natural attacking game". 

Miura 
"It's difficult to express my feelings about the game. We should at least have had a draw out of it. When I went on I thought that if we didn't concede a third we could still take something from the game. It feels really bad to lose the first game back after a long break. It's pointless crying over spilt milk though; we have a game against Grampus at home on Wednesday and we'll pick ourselves up for that". 


TOKYO manager Hara 
"During the break we tried to familiarize Sasa with the team as much as possible. He scored an early goal and showed his strengths but some things he isn't used to yet. After we scored we became a little loose, were pulled around in defence and stopping chasing up front. We struggled to get hold of Nagai and Ponte and a certain amount of indecision crept into our play. The Reds midfielders Suzuki and Hasebe then took charge of the midfield. In particular, Ponte was a handful and he really created the rhythm for the team. We wanted to use Kajiyama to move the ball around but he had trouble finding his correct position and, just as we decided to replace him with Miura, Ponte scored a superb goal. We must find the proper way to use Sasa and his combination with Lucas isn't working smoothly yet. In the second half we reverted to our usual formation when we sent Ishikawa on to move the ball around. He allowed us to use the flanks more and nearly had the equaliser right at the end of the game when his shot hit the post. It was very regrettable but we have another game coming up and will have to find how to integrate Sasa into the team and move the ball around more". 

Reds manager Buchwald 
"We expected TOKYO to come at us aggressively from the kick off and discussed starting aggressively ourselves. We did, but a moment's loss of concentration led to them taking an early lead. The players kept their heads up and determined to play our usual style of football. We were able to acheive it, create chances and force TOKYO back. Unfortunately we could only manage one goal in the first half despite the number of chances we had. We dominated the second half though, created a hatfull of chances and Ponte scored the second with a marvelous piece of individual skill. They came back at us though, and we had some luck but overall it was a very good performance. I was very excited by the way the team played. In particular Ponte fulfilled our expectations of him; he shot well and played some beautiful through balls. We took off Marich for tactical reasons as TOKYO had sent on Ishikawa and his combination with Kaji on the right is very dangerous. We sent on Santos to deal with that threat and to try to find space behind the TOKYO defence. Today was the first in a succession of games; we're looking forward to the next match now and aim to maintain our concentration".
