相手の堅守を崩し、アウェイながら勝ち点3を目指す一戦

　リーグ第16節は、アウェイでロアッソ熊本と対戦。前節は先制を果たしたのち、中盤での仕掛けやパスを相手に奪われてリズム自体を作ることができず、引き分けに終わった。だが、選手たちは課題を前向きに捉え、リードしたあとにも「引いてしまわず、強気でもう一度プッシュアップしていこう(高橋)」と意識を統一。課題の一つひとつを修正し次に活かせるように努めている。

　対する熊本は、現在4勝4分1敗で6位につける。ここまでの総得点は8で、東京の9よりも少ないが、総失点は5とリーグ2番目に少ない。堅守をベースに僅差の勝負をモノにして、手堅く勝ち点を積み重ねているといえる。布陣は、中盤をダイヤモンド型に配する4-4-2だが、守備の場面では2トップを残して引いて奪い、長身のFW長沢を起点にしたカウンターを仕掛けてくる。

　東京は、前節欠場した今野が日本代表の活動から戻り先発に復帰。また大竹に代わり谷澤が入る布陣で臨むことに。これまでと同様にボールを回しながらチャンスを作ることはもちろん、セカンドボールに競り勝ち、自分たちの時間を長くして試合を進めたいところだ。先制すればすぐに追加点を狙いにいくような勢いも出していきたい。羽生の前線での動き出しを活かすなど、裏を狙った攻撃やサイドからも積極的に仕掛けることが必要になる。

　石川は「昨季までとはスイッチの入れ方も、自分の活かされ方も違うが、その中でも自分の武器をみつけて、迫力のある攻撃を仕掛けていきたい」と話すように、試合状況や相手の状態を冷静に見極めながらも、ここぞというときの勢いと集中力で熊本を凌駕し、勝利につなげたい。試合は熊本県民総合運動公園陸上競技場(KKWING)にて19時04分に東京のキックオフで開始された。

Tokyo Aim To Breach Tight Kumamoto Defence 

F.C.Tokyo made the long journey south to Kyushu to take on Roasso Kumamoto in the 16th. game of the season. In their previous outing Tokyo had taken a first half lead but then struggled to control the midfield, misplaced passes, lost their rhythm and were forced to settle for a draw. The players were determined not to repeat the mistakes, vowing in the words of Takahashi not to, "play too deeply after taking the lead and to push up forcefully once again". 
Opponents Kumamoto lay in 6th.place at kick off with a W4 D4 L1 record. The side wasn't particularly prolific, having scored only 8 goals in nine games, but had conceded only 5, the second best defensive record in the league. The team tended to grind out narrow wins with that solid defence as a base and was steadily accumulating points. Kumamoto lined up with a diamond midfield in a 4-4-2 formation, usually leaving lanky forward Nagasawa and partner Nakama in advanced positions then striking on the counter attack when they regained possession. 
Konno returned to Tokyo from duty with the Japan National Team while Yazawa was preferred to Otake in the starting eleven. In addition to their customary tactics of moving the ball around to probe for openings, winning the second balls and seeking to dominate play Tokyo would quickly press for a second goal if they were to take the lead. Hanyu's movement in attack, getting in behind the Kumamoto defence and making positive use of the wings would all be vital. 
Ishikawa commented, "The way we switch the play and my role are different from last year but I want to find my weapons and attack with power and intensity". Tokyo would need to coolly appraise the state of the game and their opponents before choosing their moments to spring forward. 
The visitors kicked off shortly after 7pm on a wet evening in the Kumamoto Athletics Stadium, the KKWING.

ロベルト セザーがボレーを突き刺し先制！　前半をリードして折り返す

　序盤は熊本に勢いのある攻撃を仕掛けられた。だが慌てずに守り、雨のピッチの中でもパスをつないで攻めに出た。同時にロベルト セザーが相手の裏を狙い、6分には田邉がスルーパスを送る。12分にはCKから逆襲をくらうが、羽生のインターセプトから攻め残っていた森重がゴール前にラストパス。いずれもわずかにタイミングが合わず、フィニッシュには持ち込めなかったが、積極的な姿勢から徐々に自分たちのリズムを掴もうとした。

　16分には、エリア右寄り・すぐ手前でロベルト セザーが倒され、FKを得る。森重が狙ったキックは壁に当たって、左CKに。すると迎えた20分、相手陣内・右サイドでロベルト セザーがファールを受けてFKを得る。これを今野からクイックリスタートし、右外を上がった徳永がクロス。ファーで高橋が相手DFと競り合い、こぼれてきた浮いたボールをセザーが右足のボレーを突き刺し、先制を果たした！

　リードを奪った後も引き過ぎず、パスを回して2点目を狙おうとした。21分には田邉が左エリア内から強烈なシュートを放つもGKの好セーブでCKに。23分にはロベルト セザーがハーフウェイラインからドリブルで突破を図り、右エリア内からのシュートはわずかに枠を外れる。

　リードされた熊本は、戦い方を変えずに徹底してロングボールを送り、前線できっちりと収めてチャンスにつなげてきた。34分にはクリアミスから熊本・FW長沢に決定的なシュートを放たれるもボールは徳永に当たって権田がキャッチ。相手のミスにも助けられて、1点のリードを保って前半を終了した。

Roberto Cesar's Volley Gives Tokyo The Lead 

Kumamoto stormed forward in the opening minutes but Tokyo held firm and attempted to pass their way out of defence on the rain-slick pitch. Roberto Cesar constantly looked to dart behind the home defence and a through ball from Tanabe nearly played him in in the 6th.minute. In the 12th.minute Kumamoto launched a counter attack from a Tokyo corner but Hanyu intercepted the ball in midfield and quickly attempted to find Morishige who had ventured forward for the set play. Although Tokyo were unable to finish the move with a shot on goal it showed positive intentions and signs that the visitors were beginning to find a rhythm.
Cesar drew a foul just outside the Kumamoto penalty area on the right in the 16th.minute. Morishige blasted the free kick into the defensive wall and the ball spun out for a corner. Cesar won another free kick near the right touchline in the 20th.minute. Konno took it quickly, moving the ball on to Tokunaga who burst forward and crossed to the far post where Takahashi attempted to out-jump a defender. The ball looped back into the danger area and Cesar was on hand to smash a right-footed volley into the net to give Tokyo the lead. 
After going ahead Tokyo maintained a proactive approach, passing the ball around and looking for a second goal. Tanabe unleashed a fierce drive from the left in the 21st.minute, drawing a fine save from Minami and earning a corner. Roberto Cesar embarked on a slaloming run from the half way line in the 23rd.minute that took him inside the Kumamoto penalty box but his shot flew narrowly wide of the post. 
The hosts made no changes to their tactics, continuing to hoist long balls forward to Nagasawa. The striker was able to retain possession and that led to chances, the clearest one falling to Nagasawa himself in the 34th.minute following a misplaced clearance by the Tokyo defence. He struck firmly but the ball clipped Tokunaga and fell comfortably for Gonda to collect. That let off allowed Tokyo to take the one goal lead into half time. 

集中してピンチをしのぎ切り勝利を飾る

　後半は東京がボールを支配。相手のプレスをかわしてつなぎ、チャンスを窺う展開に。51分には森重が前線へ長いグランダーのスルーパス。羽生が反応して走り出したが、球足が少し長く…。続いて高橋が右前線に上がり、ロベルト セザーのもとにどんぴしゃのクロスを送ったが、ヘディングは打ち切れず…。63分、田邉の縦パスを右エリアで受けた谷澤が前の持ち直しシュートしたが、DFにブロックされてCKに。

　67分には梶山→左を上がった北斗が中に切れ込んでミドルを狙ったが、GKの正面に。その後はスイッチを入れる場面で熊本の堅守に阻まれ、効果的なチャンスを作れない時間が続く。逆に熊本はシンプルに前線にボールを集め、迫力のある攻撃を仕掛けてきた。そのため、75分には石川を、83分には上里をボランチに投入。布陣を変えて、相手の高さ対策の中心に高橋を置き、修正を図ろうとした。

　88分には、谷澤のパスから石川がスピードを活かして右エリア・ゴール至近距離まで持ち込み、中央に詰めた田邉にラストパスを送ろうとしたが、相手DFのギリギリのブロックに阻まれる…。追加点を奪えないまま時間は経過、ロスタイムには意地を見せる熊本のクロスを権田がパンチングで逃れ、そのこぼれが熊本・FW長沢のもとに渡るが…あたり損ねて権田がキャッチし、タイムアップ。集中してピンチをしのぎ、1点を守り切り、アウェイで勝ち点3をもぎ取った。

　【選手コメント】《ロベルト セザー》「(得点は)クロスがこぼれてきたが、落ち着いていた。難しいシュートだったが、正確に蹴れば、入らないことはないと思っていた。GKに触られたが、しっかりミートさせ、枠に飛ばすことを考えた結果、決めることができた。このチームは高いレベルの選手が揃っていると思う。なかなか波に乗ることができないが、勝ち続けられるように、自分が勢いをつけたい。ここから波に乗っていきたい」

　《高橋》「守備としてはボールに寄せるスピードが遅かった。サイドチェンジも狙っていたが、前半と後半に1本ずつぐらいしかできず、個人的には課題ばかりが残った試合。ただチームとしての戦い方は、前節から修正できていたのではないか。先制したあとも、プレスの位置を下げず、前からいこうとした。結果的にそこで奪えた回数は少なかったかもしれないが、意識は統一されていた。攻撃の場面でも幅を使いながら、斜めに入っていくような……たとえば北斗くんが起点になって、草民がエリアに切り込んでいくような……そういう形は作れていたと思う。ああいう形で(得点という)結果を出せればいいと思う」

　【大熊監督の会見要旨】「1点は先制できたが相手もホームで非常にアグレッシブに自分たちのサッカーをしてきた。ただ交代選手も含め、ウチも粘り強く守備をやりながらもう1点を狙いにいった。今後はその回数を多くしていかなければいけないと思います。苦しい中で1点を守り、勝ちを手繰り寄せる集中力は全員にあった。この粘り強さをベースとして継続し、残りの試合をやっていかなければならない。その上でやはり2点目を取りにいくバリエーションや交代選手の質やコンビネーション。それと先発選手のエネルギーが切れているので、そこもさらに上げていかなくてはいけないと思います。最後に雨の中、こんなに遠く熊本まで応援に駆けつけてくれたファン・サポーターのみなさんには本当に感謝しています。勝ち点3を獲得し、みなさんにも喜んでもらうことができて本当に良かったと思います。

　(谷澤を先発で起用した狙いは？)雨だということも多少はあった。今、チームとしてやろうとしていることはうまさではなく、みんなでハードワークをするという原点にもう1回チームとしても思い出したい。それとボールを奪うところで、前節は色々な意味で隙を作ってしまった。うまいとか下手とかではなく、チームとしての隙を少なくしたいという意味での選択と決断。あとはメンバー交代でポジションを変えても、谷澤はユーティリティがありどこでもできる。バランスが悪いときに動かせるという利点も含めて先発を決めました」

　【熊本・高木琢也監督の会見要旨】「昨夜からの大雨にも関わらず、たくさんのサポーターが応援をしてくださってありがとうございました。勝負というのはやっぱりこういうものかというのも正直あるし、勝利をサポーターの方々にプレゼントできなかったことに関しては、非常に残念な気持ちでいっぱい。ただこれは主観的な話なので、FC東京からすると違うかもしれませんが主観的な話だと思って聞いて下さい。内容に関しては自分たちが今やっていることを、今日は多くのシーンや時間帯で出せたんじゃないかと思っています。実際、今日のゲームに向けての準備として、ディフェンス面とか色々あると思いますが、攻撃に関しては自分たちのサッカーをやるということ。このFC東京戦でやってみろと。それがどうなのかを最終的に色々な意味で修正したり、それを持って次のゲームに活かすことを僕の中でやりたくて、今日はそういう意味でのトライをしました。

　内容としては、良くやってくれたんじゃないかなと思っています。今日の勝敗に関しては非常に悔しい。そして負けというものはしっかりと受け止めなくてはいけないと思いますし、先程も言いましたが、内容に関しては今後の我々の戦い、これからの対戦相手、これからやっていく中でもっともっと自信を高めていけば勝つ試合、そして点を取れる試合を作れると思っています。いいゲームをしてくれたと思っています。負けたことは力不足な部分もあったということを認めて、また次のゲームに向けて、準備をしたいなと思います」

Sterling Defensive Work Earns Tokyo Vital Win 

Tokyo dominated as the second half unfolded, negating Kumamoto's pressure and looking to create chances. In the 51st.minute Morishige stroked a low, straight ball up the field; Hanyu reacted fastest and set off in chase but the pass narrowly evaded him. Shortly after that Takahashi pushed forwards down the right and curled a sumptuous cross towards Cesar inside the penalty area. Unfortunately Cesar was unable to make contact with the ball. In the 63rd.minute Tanabe picked out Yazawa inside the Kumamoto box on the right with a straight through ball; Yazawa recovered his balance sufficiently to whip in a low shot that a defender blocked away for a corner. 
In the 62nd.minute Kajiyama found Nakamura pushing forward down the left. Nakamura cut inside and produced a firm drive that flew straight at Minami. The hosts tightened up in defence, denying Tokyo any clear-cut attempts on goal, while increasing the pressure in attack. Tokyo responded by introducing Ishikawa in the 75th.minute and using Uesato in a defensive midfield role from the 83rd, with Takahashi dropping deeper to counter the height of the Kumamoto front line. 
In the 88th.minute Ishikawa collected a pass from Yazawa and raced through the Kumamoto defence, into the area and to the byline on the right at point-blank range from goal. Ishikawa attempted to pull the ball back to Tanabe but a defender made a last-ditch block that saved a certain goal. As the clocked ticked down Kumamoto continued to launch the ball into the Tokyo area. In additional time Gonda punched a cross clear then held an effort from Nagasawa under extreme pressure. That was the final action of the game as the whistle blew. Tokyo had survived a couple of dangerous moments but maintained their concentration to defend Cesar's goal and earn a vital away win.

"I kept calm as the ball was deflected from the cross. It was a difficult shot to make but I got a good contact on the ball and I didn't think it wasn't going in. The goalkeeper got a touch but the shot had enough power to take it into the goal. We have a lot of top-level players in this team. We can't seem to put a run together but I want to add all my energy to the team so that we can go on to win consecutive games". 

Takahashi 
"In defence I felt that I was late getting onto the ball and although I was trying to play crossfield balls I only managed one in each half. Personally it was a game that left me plenty of issues to think about. However, in terms of the team I think we corrected a lot of things from the last performance. After we scored we were challenging for the ball much higher up the field and were more active from the front. Maybe we didn't win the ball from there so much but there was a greater sense of unity in the performance. We used the width of the pitch in attack and tried to play diagonal balls. For example, when Hokuto ( Nakamura ) took the ball forward Sotan ( Tanabe ) was cutting inside into the area. I felt we managed to put together some attacks like that. It'll be good for the team if we can score from moves like the one that brought the goal today". 

F.C.Tokyo manager Kiyoshi Okuma 
"Although we managed to take the lead our opponents played an aggressive, attacking game. We showed real tenacity in defence but at the same time were still trying to get the second goal. It was a hard game but all the players, including the substitutes, showed great concentration to defend a slim lead and earn us the points. We're going to need to show that same concentration in all the remaining games. In addition, we need greater variation in our play and from our substitutes and combinations to get us that second goal. We also have to improve the energy levels of the starting players. Finally, I'd like to express my thanks to all our supporters who made the long trip down here in the rain to support the team. I'm really pleased to be able to share the win with them. 
Why did we start Yazawa today? One reason was the rain and another was the team’s need for hard work more than anything else at the moment. In the last game the positions we won the ball in sometimes left us vulnerable and we wanted to keep it as tight as possible today. That's no criticism of any player but it influenced our decision in player selection. Also, Yazawa is a versatile player and can perform in different roles if we change the shape of the team. If the team loses its balance we can deploy him in different areas".

"I'd like to thank the large number of fans who turned out to support the team despite the heavy rain we've had since last night. In all honesty this is the way the game goes sometimes and I'm very disappointed that we couldn't reward them with a win. Speaking subjectively, I felt that we showed a lot of what we've been doing recently in our performance today. I thought it was a good performance so to lose is bitterly disappointing. We have to accept the defeat and look to increase our confidence for the games ahead. We also have to recognize that we lacked sufficient power in certain areas and prepare to the best of our ability for the next match."
