□ "Healthy Heart Week" and "Healthy Heart Day"
Circulatory diseases, represented by stroke and heart disease, are known to be the second leading cause of death among Japanese people, following cancer. However, in terms of medical expenses, they are the top cause, and in terms of the cause of caregiving, they are also the top cause, making them a significant social issue. On the other hand, unlike cancer, prevention is highly effective through proper education. Therefore, the Basic Law for Measures against Circulatory Diseases, which was enacted in 2019, aims to promote prevention and awareness among the public. The Japan Heart Foundation designated August 10th (Heart Day) as "Healthy Heart Day" in 1985 and has been holding events to promote prevention of heart disease around August 10th every year. Starting in 2021, the Japan Circulation Society, the Japanese Circulation Association, and the Japan Heart Foundation have joined forces, and starting in 2023, the Japan AED Foundation has also joined. Four organizations are working together to promote and raise awareness. This year, from July 29th, 2023 (Sat) to August 10th (Thu), we will hold various events under the theme of "Healthy Heart Week 2023" for about two weeks.
